SUL OPAC updates (CS, MS, JW)
- Colleen announced that Nancy Cunningham would be rotating off as Chair of the subcommittee. Barbara Tuck and Melinda Gottesman would be co-chairing at the next conference call (2.38.08). The committee would be submitting an Executive Summary to CCL by March 3rd on the Visioning Summit.
- FCLA update – print full serials records. FCLA has added different browse headings in testcat. Currently dealing with the Journal title problem. The problem is with the partial update of index Journal title/material type removed by FCLA without notification to staff/LibOPAC list. Colleen agreed to send a notification to public services to inform them of the change. Rich reported that when a search is entered and the catalog is down, there is a message displaying in the Endeca OPAC that informs users that the catalog is down and provides a link to use the back up (ALEPH) catalog.
- Rich mentioned that the browse headings in testcat is incomplete with no see references. Testcat also includes the Added Author field, which was discussed at length at the last conference call.
- Save option changed with the addition of call number to it. Save text file to computer or account. Rich indicates that he knows of no plan to create personal Endeca space; this may be due to the ease of exporting records to an individual Refworks account.
- "View marked records" language changed to "view checked records". Browse by call number is something FCLA is still working on. Problem currently is that patrons need to use full number & proper punctuation.
- Exact phrase > Rich asked whether this could be implemented locally. Colleen would ask Josh if he could make a test version for UF. Marina reminded the group that this request may not be easy to add and suggested that this should be added to a wishlist, not be marked a priority.
- Diacritics are being worked on.
- Colleen asked for suggestions of this group on a way to ensure that decisions made at the conference calls be validated after review of the minutes (many decisions seem to be made during the call but are not always selected by unanimous vote; voting might need to be as systematic as the roll call is).
- Rich would search for open tickets to FCLA for the next meeting so that we could prioritize our needs.
- Colleen announced that the 970 field (with the table of Contents information purchased by UF) is no longer searched in an Endeca Title search, but may still be retrieved in an "Anywhere" search.
Basic Search page options (RB)
Rich indicated that he is awaiting for more comments by members of the committee. After some further refinement, the idea(s) would be shared with library staff for further discussion.
Problem Report (JF)
Jason will modify the problem report's department list and change library card number to UFID#. He agreed to add this link to the wiki for review of the committee. Rich will check to see where current forms are being sent. Marina will check to see what HSCL wants to use for specific addresses. Jessica will check to see if a generic address can be used for all Law Library issues.
Help pages (CS, MO, MD)
Marilyn and Colleen passed out a list of Help topics and asked for input by Wednesday, March 5. We would have some language drafted for discussion during the next meeting the following week.
Usability report (JF, MO, SG)
Usability testing was conducted last week. Jason would address the SUS OPAC committee in the next meeting to give a summary of results. Essentially participants prefer to see the print or email links from both the basic result list and from the specific record found. We would like to see a formal charge and a testing structure that could maximize each institution's time (e.g. SUS OPAC committee indicate a function needed to be tested and a single institution would test the function). Marilyn is currently exploring the possibility of getting an exemption for Endeca testing with the UF IRB. No real discussion about Usability Team testing will occur until after this round of testing save-print and browse.
